What this site is
RoofTake publishes weather data and general information about roofs, hail damage and insurance claims, plus free calculators. It is an information service.
What it is not
We are not an insurer, an insurance agent, a public adjuster, a roofing contractor, an engineer or a law firm. Nothing here is legal advice, insurance advice, or a professional opinion on the condition of your roof. Decisions about a claim or a repair should be made with somebody qualified who has actually looked at your property.
The data
Hail data is derived from NOAA public-domain radar products and is provided as-is. Radar hail size is an algorithmic estimate of stones aloft in a storm cell, not a measurement at any address. We may be wrong; NOAA may be wrong; the algorithm has known limits, described on the methodology page. Do not use this site as a substitute for National Weather Service warnings.
The calculators
Every calculator here is a model built on stated assumptions, and each says so on its own results. Cost estimates are planning ranges, not quotes. Payout calculations are illustrations of arithmetic, not predictions of what your insurer will pay.
Community-submitted content
If you submit a report, an outcome or a photograph you confirm that it is yours to submit and you give us a non-exclusive licence to publish it on this site. You keep ownership. Ask us and we will remove it.
Submissions are structured fields, not free text, and we do not ask which insurer or which contractor was involved. This is deliberate. Free-text reviews naming companies create defamation exposure for the person writing them and for us, and they are easy to game. Structured outcomes cannot be gamed as easily and are more useful to the next reader. Everything is moderated before it appears, and we remove anything that identifies an individual or a company, anything abusive, and anything we cannot reasonably believe.
Contractor introductions
If you submit the quote form, your details go to the partners named beside the consent box and on the partners page. We are paid for that introduction — in full here. We do not vet, employ, supervise, endorse or guarantee any contractor, and any contract you enter into is between you and them. Check licensing, insurance and references yourself; how to do that.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss arising from reliance on anything published here. If you think something is wrong, tell us and we will fix it — hello@rooftake.com.
Reusing our data
The NOAA source data is public domain. Our processed JSON files are free to reuse with a link back to the page you took them from. Please do not re-publish the article text wholesale.
