Hail claim deadline tracker

Four different clocks start when hail hits, and only one of them is the statute of limitations. Put in your date of loss and your policy's own numbers and see them laid out.

Do not know it? Look up your ZIP first.
0 if your policy says only "prompt" or "as soon as practicable".
Read it off the conditions section of your policy.
The contractual deadline to bring an action. Usually shorter than the state statute of limitations.

Common questions

Why do you not just publish the deadline for my state?

Because the deadline that binds you is written in your policy, not in a table on a website, and a wrong number here could cost somebody their claim. We show you which documents to read and where to verify.

I found the damage two years after the storm. Is it too late?

Maybe not, but it is the hardest version of this fight. Insurers argue late notice caused prejudice. Contemporaneous evidence that hail occurred on a specific date — which is what our records give you — is the counterweight.

Does reporting a claim start a clock?

It starts several: the insurer's own response deadlines under state regulation, and often your proof of loss window. It does not extend the suit limitation period.

Is any of this legal advice?

No. It is a way of laying out dates you should already know. If a deadline is close, talk to somebody qualified in your state.

We pass your details to licensed contractors in our partner network. Nothing is booked and nothing is charged here.

How we get paid: if you ask to be contacted, we are paid a fee by the contractor network that receives your details — whether or not you hire anyone. That fee is the only way this site is funded. It does not change your price, and we are not paid more for recommending one contractor over another. Full explanation.
